Cold Test

Cold Testing of Petrol and Diesel Internal Combustion Engines is rapidly taking over from Hot Testing because of the environmental benefits and the ability to test the complete function of every engine manufactured. This means not only mainstream engines, but also high performance engines and large, heavy duty diesel engines.

A Cold Test comprises:

  • A full Engine Leak Test
  • A Dynamic Function Test where the engine is driven by an electric motor connected to the crankshaft
Advantages of Cold Testing are:
  • Lower investment costs due to shorter cycle times, resulting in fewer test stands, and less environmental impact as no fuel is burned and there are no waste products to dispose of.
  • The complete engine is tested including mechanical functions along with the associated actuators and sensors. Turbo charges can also be tested.
  • Individual cylinder performance can be evaluated with no limitations.
